Delicious foods for a strong, sexy heart

Keeping it ticking in perfect time is simple: Eat more whole, unprocessed foods.

Whole foods should be your first choice before you turn to supplements, says the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Research shows that your body can more easily digest and absorb the vitamins and minerals in whole foods.

So, dig into some Power Food!

The Heart & Stroke Foundation recommends eating a variety of healthy whole foods to decrease your risk of heart disease and stroke.
 
Here are some of our favourites:
 
Fresh veggies & fruits– High in fibre, vitamin A and C, and folate, the nutrients in fresh fruits and veggies aid in the formation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen.
 
Almonds & hazelnuts– Unsaturated fats in these nuts are the “good” fats that help lower bad cholesterol levels and keep your heart strong.
 
 
Raw Hummus Recipe
 
Ingredients
1 cup diced zucchini (peel if you like)
1/4 cup raw tahini
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
3 teaspoons ground cumin
 
1.      Combine all of the ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy!
2.      Serve chilled with colourful veggies. Yum!
